T is for Tarans #AtoZChallenge

Origin:  Scotland

Description:  The Tarans are the spirits of unbaptized children.  They are condemned to wander the world crying out until Doomsday.

Disposition:  Like many spirits, the Tarans aren’t particularly friendly and you could very well die if you meet one.  Holy water and shouting a baptismal rite at them might help, but I wouldn’t count on it.

    1. I've always wanted to go to Scotland. My husband went on a walking tour a few years ago. I should have gone, but hanging out with a bunch of guys didn't sound like much fun.

  2. Nasty little critters! I wouldn't have any holy water on me anyway, so I'd have to run!

    1. No holy water here. I'd have to use my wits. I think I'd be SOL.

  3. This one's not as fun as the hot (though usually dangerous) dude fae folk. But still, I like it. :)

    1. I know. Most fae are rather unattractive. It's disappointing.

  4. All my family are Scots (except me - I'm the only one born in England for many generations) - I've never heard of this term, before! You learn something new everyday! :-O

    1. There is so much to Scottish folklore that I could devote months and months if not years to it. Thanks for stopping by!

  5. My husband is Scottish. I could see his mother 'handling' one of these Tarans. She's a bit scary too! ;-)
